Jacksonville
Transportation - One means of transportation
is renting a car. If you are going to be driving through
the area there are three major Interstate Highways
running through Jacksonville - I-95, I-295 and I-10.
There is I-75 that runs approximately 60 miles west
of downtown Jacksonville and there are four major
U.S. Highways- U.S. 1, U.S. 17, U.S. 90 and U.S. 301.
Here are some distances for you to know. Jacksonville
is forty minutes from Fernandina Beach/Amelia Island,
two and a half hours from Orlando (Disney World) thirty-five
minutes from historic St. Augustine and six hours
from Atlanta, which gives you an idea of how far it
is to get to your next destination.
This is a fantastic way to see the city of downtown
Jacksonville. Take the Skyway Monorail (daily
6.30am–7.30pm; 35¢) from the Convention
Center to Hemming Park. It is a ten-minute ride and
you can see quite a bit of the area on it. It is a
fantastic beginning to your stay in the Jacksonville
area.
Getting around the city may also be accomplished
on the downtown trolley 100 N. Myrtle Ave. Jacksonville,
FL 32202 904.RID.EJTA and on the city buses, Jacksonville
Transportation Authority and the Greyhound
bus lines. There is Gator City Taxi at 904-355-TAXI
and there is a River Taxi at 904.910.1227.
Renting a Car in Jacksonville is
also a possibility to travel around the city for sightseeing.
Whichever way that you decide to travel be sure that
you have maps along with you so you can make getting
around the city as easy as possible.
